LASU sits at Ojo, which puts it on a completely different axis from every other Lagos campus. You are not competing with Yaba prices or Akoka density. You are on the Badagry expressway side, where accommodation is genuinely cheaper and the problems are different ones.
Here is where LASU students actually live, what it costs, and how to find people to share with.
The areas
Iba and the LASU-Isheri Road stretch. The closest student belt and the default answer. Purpose-built student hostels sit along here, typically single-room self-contained units with a kitchen and an ensuite. You are minutes from the gate, and the whole strip exists because of the university.
Igbo Elerin. The other main hunting ground, with a wide spread of stock. Listings this September showed single rooms advertised from around ₦100,000 a year, and self-contained units in the ₦400,000 to ₦500,000 range. Parts of it are a genuine trek to campus, which is exactly why it is cheaper.
Iyana Iba and Iyana Oba. Busy junction areas with transport in every direction and plenty of small units. Noisier, very well connected.
Ijanikin. Further along the expressway, in Oto-Awori. Cheaper again, quieter, and a real commute you should test before signing.
Festac, Amuwo Odofin and Satellite Town. The grown-up option, used by students who want a proper flat rather than a lodge and are willing to travel. Worth considering if several of you are splitting.
Those figures come from student and property listings checked in September 2026. Ojo prices vary sharply street to street and move each session, so treat them as orientation and confirm locally.
Hostel first, then off-campus
LASU runs an online application for student hostel accommodation, and it is worth applying even if you expect to live off campus. University hostels, where you get one, are almost always the cheapest roof available. Off-campus is the plan for when that does not come through, which for most students it will not.

Why sharing a flat beats a single lodge room
The pattern is the same in every university town, and Ojo is no exception.
A packaged single room is priced at a premium because it solves the finding-people problem for you. A whole flat is priced per property. So three or four coursemates splitting a flat usually get more space per naira than the same people renting four separate rooms — and the agency, legal and caution fees split as well, because they are charged on the property rather than per tenant.
You also get a kitchen, which quietly matters. Cooking together and buying in bulk is meaningfully cheaper than feeding one person from vendors, and it only works if there is somewhere to cook and enough people to eat it before it turns.
The catch is that it has to be organised before the session, by a group with an agreed number. Three people hunting separately in week one will each end up in a lodge room.
What to check at the viewing
- Water. Borehole, pump, and whether it runs today. The most common thing to go wrong in student stock.
- Power. What the street actually gets, asked of a current occupant rather than the caretaker. Ask what a shared generator costs you monthly.
- Locks. Every door and window, tested with your own hands. Your bedroom door especially.
- How many share the bathroom, and when they leave in the morning.
- Damp and ceilings. Stains, bubbling paint and sagging boards mean water is getting in.
- The walk to the gate at night, because you will be doing it.
- The road in rainy season. Ask a neighbour, not the agent. Parts of this axis take water badly.
Photograph and video everything, including every existing fault, before you pay. It is the only thing that protects your deposit when you leave.
Do not lose your session money
- See the exact room, in daylight. Not a similar one, not a photo.
- Verify who you are paying — landlord, caretaker, or an outgoing student with no authority to let anything.
- Match the account name to that person.
- Never pay cash. Get a written receipt stating who received it, for which room, how much and for what period.
- A handover from a departing student needs the landlord's agreement in writing, or you have bought nothing.
- Ignore the rush. Rooms do go quickly at the start of session, which is precisely why the pressure works.
Sort the people first
The lodge matters less than who is in it. Agree your group and your budget before you start walking Iba, and have the awkward conversations — money, guests, study hours, who fuels the generator — while everyone is still being polite.
Find coursemates to split with on shared apartments around Festac and Ojo, check for the verification badge, and video call before you commit a session's rent to anyone.
🛡️ Protect your money. Your rent should not move before you have seen the place. With SecurePay the payment partner holds your protected payment. Inspect before you authorise release; refunds follow your selected agreement policy. Get Flatmate free on iOS and Android.
